Projector or SmartBoard Not Displaying
When your projector or SmartBoard is not showing your screen, the problem is usually a connection or input source issue — not a broken projector. Try these steps before submitting a ticket.
Step 1 — Check the Cable Connection
- Firmly unplug and re-plug the HDMI or VGA cable at both ends — the computer end and the projector/display end.
- If using a dongle or adapter, try removing it and plugging the cable directly.
- If you have a spare cable available, swap it to rule out a bad cable.
Step 2 — Select the Correct Input Source
The projector must be set to the same input your computer is connected to.
- Press the Source or Input button on the projector or its remote.
- Cycle through the options (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, VGA, etc.) until you see your desktop.
Step 3 — Extend or Duplicate Your Display (Windows)
- Press Windows key + P on your keyboard.
- A panel will appear on the right. Choose:
- Duplicate — shows the same image on both your laptop and the projector (most common for teaching)
- Extend — treats the projector as a second monitor
- Second screen only — only shows on the projector
Step 4 — Restart the Projector
- Press the power button on the projector or remote to turn it off.
- Wait 30 seconds for the lamp to cool.
- Power it back on.
- Wait for the startup sequence to complete before checking the display.
SmartBoard-Specific Issues
Touch is not working: Open the SMART Board software (look for the SMART icon in the taskbar) and run the orientation/calibration tool.
Board shows image but pen does not work: Make sure the SMART Board USB cable is connected to your computer in addition to the HDMI/VGA cable. The USB cable is what sends touch data.
SMART Notebook files opening in Chrome: Right-click the file → Open with → SMART Notebook. If Notebook is not listed, it may need to be reinstalled — submit a workorder.
Submit a Workorder
If none of the above steps work, submit a ticket at support.nobleps.com, select SmartBoard or Projector, and describe exactly what you see on screen (black screen, "No Signal," distorted image, etc.) and what you have already tried.
